Careers - Living in Fargo

Fargo – Much More Than Windswept Tundra

Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota and the seat of Cass County. It is the focus of a metropolitan statistical area that extends over Cass County, North Dakota, and Clay County, Minnesota, where Fargo's sister city, Moorhead, is located.

Founded by the Northern Pacific Railway, the city was an important transportation and marketing point for the surrounding fertile wheat-growing region. Today it is an agri-business and agricultural research center.

Money Magazine consistently ranks Fargo among the nation's most livable small cities, noting that it is a safe city and a "booming regional center for health care and financial services." The city has been declared a "Great Plains success story, with locally grown high-tech firms and a state university." by Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine.

Fargo annually ranks among the best metro areas in the country for quality of life, raising a family, growing a business and finding well-educated, responsible workers. While we operate at a different pace than most major metropolitan areas, the windswept tundra with a horse and buggy image you probably have isn’t an accurate reflection of our region. We have running water. We have automobiles. We even have that new World Wide Web thing.

All kidding aside, Fargo is one of the top small cities in America to live in. We enjoy a reasonable cost of living and take full advantage of the entertainment resources at our disposal with a revitalized and masterfully restored downtown area, championship golf courses, semi-pro sports teams, museums, art galleries and award-winning local restaurants of the four-star variety. Don’t forget, we’re less than an hour away from beautiful Minnesota lakes country. Hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, the arts, and sports – whatever your flavor of entertainment, you can do it here.
